Just what is success and why is it so hard to achieve?

Without leaders we would be in a state of anarchy. Anarchy simply means "The state of a society being without authorities or an authoritative governing body." -Wiktionary

Success is hard to achieve mainly because you have no leader. Truth is, there are too many leaders. Too many voices. Which one do you follow?

If you had a plan for success laid out for you and all you had to do was accomplish each step wouldn’t that simplify things? Absolutely.

The bad news is there is no plan for you. That’s something you have to come up on your own.

Become Your Own Leader

In a state of anarchy you have to become your own leader.

Before you can start working toward success, and maybe even find the right leader, you have to take care of two major issues.

1. You have to define success for yourself.

Write down in a sentence or two what it would mean for you to be successful. If you can’t write it down, success will be impossible.

2. You have to be crystal clear on your objective.

What is your objective? What do you need to achieve in order to become successful? If you can’t write this down clearly, again it is not obtainable.

Don’t be fooled by people that say just go with the flow and you’ll figure it out. How is that building anything? That is just simply wandering and being lost. Let’s not confuse wandering and being lost with building and obtaining an objective.

Here’s the antidote for being lost: if you don’t know what your objective is, your objective is to find out. That is crystal clear. You don’t have to wander or go with the flow. You have a clear objective. This will require many experiments to determine what your likes, dislikes, strengths, and weaknesses are.

Don't Be Discouraged

People get discouraged when they want something but don’t know how to obtain it. They also get discouraged by thinking that they will obtain what they want very quickly, or in a reasonable amount of time. When we obtain success is out of our control. But what we do control is the action we take on a daily basis.

So, if you define success for yourself and become crystal clear on your objective and don’t set any expectations as to when the results will appear, then you are well on your way! No reason to be discouraged.
