Curator to Creator

By: jwilder, 12/20/2021

Most of my online life was spent curating. I looked for interesting things and collected them in the hope that I would have enough things of value to share. As I curated the work of others, my heart would break little by little, but I didn’t understand why.

After years of curating and sharing, I finally had a revelation. I realized I was wasting my life. I was promoting the work and creativity of others, and neglecting my own creativity. If your heart wasn't made for what you do, then eventually your heart will break.

I don't mean that curating is a waste of time. I have many years of experience in curating information. The problem was, I was out of balance. For me, curation was a slow march to nowhere. There will always be somebody that can out-curate you.

If you are a creator (and we all are), no one can out-create you because you are unique. People can steal what you create, but you just laugh because you can create more. You don’t have to steal, search or waste time. You create. You invest in yourself so that each day, month, year, you can create more. Create more with less effort. You create in abundance.

Moving from a curator to creator was a crucial step that gave me much more peace of mind and satisfaction. It was the fuel that ignited my growth.
